Convert units: length, weight, volume and temperature

Find the right converter for international units. Distinguish length, weight, volume and temperature, and remember that some kitchen measures depend on the measurement system or ingredient.

The right calculators

How to get started

  1. 01

Choose the quantity type and check the source and target units.

  2. 02

Check US versus imperial measures when using gallons or cups.

  3. 03

Calculate with the full value and round for your practical use at the end.

A worked example

Convert units: length, weight, volume and temperature

2.54 cm equals exactly 1 inch. Temperature conversion also needs an offset: 20°C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32 = 68°F. A temperature difference and an absolute temperature need different treatment.

Frequently asked questions

Can I always convert millilitres directly to grams?

No. Millilitres measure volume and grams measure mass. Conversion requires the density of the ingredient or liquid. A volume converter therefore cannot replace an ingredient-specific kitchen calculator.

Why can gallon values differ?

US gallons and imperial gallons have different definitions. Check which system a converter uses and keep that definition throughout the calculation.

Calculate appliance electricity costs: watts, kWh and annual cost

What does a lamp, PC or refrigerator cost to run each year? Separate power in watts from energy in kWh and use your own electricity tariff. Compare appliances over the same usage period rather than judging them by wattage alone.
