Guides
Calculate appliance electricity costs: watts, kWh and annual cost
What does a lamp, PC or refrigerator cost to run each year? Separate power in watts from energy in kWh and use your own electricity tariff. Compare appliances over the same usage period rather than judging them by wattage alone.
Compare offers: unit prices and successive discounts
A bigger pack or a larger discount is not automatically better value. Convert offers to the same unit, apply successive discounts correctly and compare the final amount payable, including relevant extra costs.
Plan laminate and paint: floor area, waste and coats
Plan materials for a room in the right order. Floor area and wall area are different quantities. Calculate them separately, choose an appropriate allowance and round up when buying full packs or paint containers.
Match your money question to the right tool: percentages for shares, interest for a period, compound interest for multiple years and loan payments for regular instalments. Compare scenarios using the same assumptions.
Calculate household costs: electricity, appliances and budget
Put monthly and annual household costs on the same basis. Calculate appliance usage, electricity costs and subscriptions before adding the amounts to your household budget.
Building and renovation: calculate area and materials
Start with area, then calculate material quantities and costs. Find tools for laminate, tiles, paint, concrete and building costs, including a waste allowance you choose yourself.
Sports calculators: running pace, swim pace and steps
Compare time, distance and pace with sports calculators. Convert steps into kilometres or use health tools for general information. Check the units and the assumptions of each model.
Convert units: length, weight, volume and temperature
Find the right converter for international units. Distinguish length, weight, volume and temperature, and remember that some kitchen measures depend on the measurement system or ingredient.
Plan accommodation, transport and day-to-day travel costs together. Split expenses per person, calculate a daily budget and keep currency conversion separate from possible bank charges.
