A bigger pack or a larger discount is not automatically better value. Convert offers to the same unit, apply successive discounts correctly and compare the final amount payable, including relevant extra costs.
The right calculatorsChoose a common unit such as kg, litres or items. Compare comparable products; different quality, concentration or serving sizes can make unit prices misleading.
Divide price by quantity. Convert grams to kilograms by dividing by 1,000 first. Put both offers on the same basis before judging the saving.
Apply the second discount to the already reduced price. Check shipping, minimum purchase and coupon conditions; a saving only helps if you actually need the quantity.

Pack A: 2.5 kg for €7.50 = €3.00/kg. Pack B: 1.8 kg for €5.76 = €3.20/kg. A costs less per kg despite the higher total price. For a €100 item discounted first by 20% and then by 10%, pay 100 × 0.80 × 0.90 = €72: a total discount of 28%, not 30%.
The second percentage applies to the smaller remaining price. The combined factor is (1 − discount 1 ÷ 100) × (1 − discount 2 ÷ 100). Subtract that factor from 1 to get the total discount fraction.
When concentration, usable quantity, shelf life or quality differ. For detergent, for example, cost per wash may tell you more than cost per litre.
